Today I visited the doctor for the last time. He pushed on the broken bone under my eye to make sure it was still aligned and it hurt! Then he described some strange feelings that occur when the nerve is regenerating, chuckling when I answered positively to experiencing them. I admitted to not applying the heat to the site for the last few days He said I should continue to do that, but on both sides now, and work on stretching my jaw. I should even ‘pry’ it open some or I might not ever be able to open it to the previous width. Two x-rays were ordered to verify progress and alignment. My neck was bent in very abnormal and extended positions for that, but the technician was considerate. It was good to see the bones back to their original shapes. I’m still limited to the soft diet for 3 weeks and am supposed to be quite careful not to bump it for 5 weeks. So, swimming is not recommended for a while since people always share lanes. I don’t need to go back to see the doctor, but can call if I have any concerns.
