How to Download a Facebook Live Video 2017

October 15, 2017 by Laura Blodgett Leave a Comment

This if off the beaten path for me, but I had a hard time figuring out how to do this and want to keep a record of the pathway.

I had just recorded a Facebook Live video of my daughter and I playing a flute duet. Another daughter helped do the recording. I did have the foresight to ask her if she knew if we could save a FB live video. She figured it out quickly and it was saved.

Now, at this point, it was not clear to me where it was saved and for how long. So, I got onto the video on my iPhone and and clicked on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner of the video post. This also gave me the option to save the video. It showed up under the tab Your Videos. Here are some screen shots to show that.

Step One: Saving the Video

The Facebook live video has already been “saved” so the option that now shows its to “unsave” it.

Step Two: Finding the Saved Video

On your Facebook timeline, find the tab that says “More” with a drop down arrow.

Click the drop down menu. For me, videos was right at the top of the list.

My only two choices at this point were “Videos of You” and “Your Videos.” A saved video shows up in “Your Videos.”

Step Three: Downloading the Video

The next step was to click on the video itself. When it opened, I could find “Options” in the middle right bottom under the video.

When you click on options, another menu shows up, listing the option of downloading the video.

Now, I had to click on the download arrow that showed up in the bottom right corner of the video. This is a new step from downloading FB videos or photos for me in the past. I sat and waited a while after I originally clicked “Download HD” in the menu, but nothing happened until I clicked this arrow.

This is how downloads now show up on my Mac desktop, so I could finally see that it was really happening!

You can go to FB to watch the video of our lovely flute duet using this link (even if you don’t have a FB account), or you can watch the download of it where I have embedded it below (we a finishing up our tuning for just a few second at first):

The music is a little known, but considered traditional, Christmas song titled Pat-a-Pan. The duet is from the book published by Last Resort Music, which I have linked to next.

We are now practicing their rendition of Greensleeves and hope to have more fun with Facebook Live!
