Listmania

Chinese lamp

It’s how I live.  I make lists.  It clears my mind…  when I do it right.  Today I did it right.  I began lists for tomorrow through next Monday.  Not too much on each day.  I have a list of long term (with in the next couple of weeks) things that would really help me out with life here.  I made a list of ongoing things that I want to remember, like to play my flute or sew.  You might be surprised how hard it is to remember normal things when our situation in life is newly in a foreign country.  I made a list of menu options, things I think I might really be able to make with the ingredients I’ve found around here.  I was having such a good time that I made a wish list, things that I dream of taking back to the states with me, such as a porcelain vase, a Persian rug, silk from the fabric market.  I was very relaxed afterward.

When Greg got home and we were discussing our day, I told him about making the lists.  I even confessed to the wish list.  He smiled his wonderful smile at me and said, “Don’t get your lists mixed up.”

As a fellow homeschooler, you may find this fairly funny. I have taken to writing our “school” plan for the week on one side of the page in a spiral bound note book and block the back of the page for a “to do” list for me. The front their work/The back mine.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you the baking stores are sometimes the only place to get good butter, bulk cream cheese (from New Zealand), baking powder, cocoa, etc. But you will find the Japanese vanilla powder you buy at the normal local market is much finer than vanilla here, it just takes a little getting used to. Do you have an oven? i didn’t and baked everything in my toaster over. Also the Dominos chain there is owned by a mei-guo0wren (American) and some of them will let you buy bulk mozrella from them, so you may want to try that…
    Good luck

oh you do have an over, lucky duck, that will make your life much easier. And I don’t think you will be able to find mollasses to make brown sugar, as suggested earlier. I looker for a month when I wanted to make gingerbread boys for Christmas one year. But you have access to many more resources, so maybe you will. Invest in a good rice steamer, you will surely use it 2 out of 3 days there. and they are not too expensive.
