Thank you, Gilbert and Sullivan – now back to our correspondent in Taipei.
I know its not the bleak, mid winter yet, but I’m having a hard time getting concerned at all. The weather does seem a bit unsettled, if you call vacillating between balmy mid to upper 70s and somewhat chilly, drizzly mid 60s unsettled. I suppose it did get down into the 50s in the middle of one night, but I missed it.
The picture above was taken last Sunday along the river near where we live. Here’s the full picture of its prolific blooming:
Beautiful tree, isn’t it?! The birds have not all flown south, either. This fun, leggy avian was casually scouting upstream for lunch.
Do you see the brilliant color of its beak? The water is actually shallow where it is, so the feet are just a few inches further down the legs. Sorry, I can’t name it. Specific names of things are the least available vocabulary. I’d probably have to find an English-Chinese speaking bird watcher, and then it is questionable if he would know the name in both languages.
Greg and I were walking along the river at a medium pace, since I’m still on restrictions, and wondering how all of those people bundled up in coats could stand it. To us, it looked like they were wearing ski gear. They were probably wondering why we weren’t cold. It does seem to be too cold to use the outdoor swimming pool, though, even for us. Its not heated.
Coming soon – a short piece about my favorite ice cream stand!
